Chicago makes Igboananike first DP signing for 2015

The 2014 MLS season is not yet over, and we already have our first Designated Player signing for the 2015 season. The Chicago Fire, which doesn't have a good track record of DP signings, acquired 25-year-Nigerian striker Kennedy Igboananike, who has played all eight pro seasons in Sweden.

“Kennedy is a dynamic goal-scorer with a track record of producing,” said Fire head coach Frank Yallop. “He’s young and exciting, a player with incredible pace, and we look forward to adding him to our roster to bolster our attack.”

The Fire's first DP, Cuauhtemoc Blanco, was one of the best Mexicans to ever play in MLS, but since then Nery Castillo, Federico Puppo, Sherjill MacDonald and Arevalo Rios disappointed. Juan Luis Anangono is still on the Fire's books, but was loaned out to LDU Quito in July after scoring just two goals in 14 games.

Chicago's top scorer in 2014 was Quincy Amarikwa with eight goals.
