For New England Revolution fans, Sunday was a day of heartbreak: a fifth loss in five MLS Cup appearances. To add insult to injury, Dan Shaughnessy, thelongtime Boston Globe sports columnist and legendary soccer-hater, took a hit at the Revs, tweeting that the silver lining to the loss was that everyone in Boston could stop pretending they wererelevant. Up stepped Mike Petke, whose New York Red Bulls the Revs had defeated in the Eastern Conference final, to defend the Revs’ honor.
