Red Bulls coach Petke comes to Revs' defense

For New England Revolution fans, Sunday was a day of heartbreak: a fifth loss in five MLS Cup appearances. To add insult to injury, Dan Shaughnessy, the longtime Boston Globe sports columnist and legendary soccer-hater, took a hit at the Revs, tweeting that the silver lining to the loss was that everyone in Boston could stop pretending they were relevant. Up stepped Mike Petke, whose New York Red Bulls the Revs had defeated in the Eastern Conference final, to defend the Revs' honor.

Well, unfortunately, for the vast majority of the Boston media - print and sports radio it's true. All you had to do was tune-in to WEEI during the run-up to the game and listen to the condescending jokes about the team, players, and game to realize this. For crying out loud, the idiots couldn't even pronounce AJ Soares name!

Thanks Mike, but rest assured Dan Shaunassay is meaningless. Just another old white guy. His opinion isn't worth rebutting. The growing legion of soccer fans in Boston will dance on his grave soon enough. Then we'll head over to our lovely new soccer stadium and cheer on our MLS championship Revs. Our future is bright. This guy's future is nonexistent. Ditto the rest of the old white guy media mouths in this town. They are the past, not the future, they know it, and it's making them nasty.

You're on target Mike. Shaunassay is so in love with himself that he thinks that he is relevant. He continues to shows himself to be the jerk that he is.

This moron might want to take note of the college soccer programs in the area. BU has a beautiful stadium with winning teams. Soccer is not going away, only growing in popularity!

Shaugnessy was right. No one cares about NER. And they never will.

The morons like Shaughnessy come out because, at bottom, they're scared, and rightfully so, that a sport they are completely ignorant of is beginning to crest. Terrifying for an OWG who can't learn anything new!

Thanks, Mike, just goes to show you how pathetic the Boston media is and has always been when it comes to the Revs. Some night when they play, the tv stations can't even devote a half a min. to say whether they won or lost. It's always laughable to me when these ignorant people say there's no scoring or it's boring. Really?? It's one of the few sports where the players can actuall be creative. Well, soccer is here to stay whether they like it or not. The only reason Shaughnessy thinks Boston is a 4-team town is because the Boston Globe refuses to report regularly.
