Luis Suarez’s move from Liverpool to Barcelona last summer topped Goal.com’s 2014 Goal Transfer List study, which calculates the maximum outlay of each of the 10 biggest transfers of the past year. The study looks beyond the face value and reported transfer fees to uncover the true cost of the biggest summer acquisitions by analyzing factors like signing-on fees, agents’ fees, and foreseeable costs clubs might pay out over the course of a player’s contract. According to the report, the full amount invested by Barca to sign Suarez will total 252 million euros ($314.6 million), placing his transfer at No.1 for the year, narrowly ahead of Angel Di Maria’s move from Real Madrid to Manchester United which will ultimately cost United 241 million euros ($301.5 million). James Rodriguez’s transfer from AS Monaco to Real was the third most expensive on the list at 169 million euros ($211.4 million).
