Real Madrid's will face San Lorenzo of Argentina in Saturday’s Club World Cup final after the South American champ ended a surprise run in the tournament by amateur team Auckland City with a 2-1 victory on Wednesday. European champion Real will be the heavy favorite as San Lorenzo needed overtime to get past the New Zealand club, 2-1.
After the game, Auckland coach Ramon Tribulietx focused on the performance of his part-timers, which include a truck driver, a cleaner, several students, a lawyer, a kitchen salesman and a brewery worker. Tribulietx said the manner of his team’s loss felt like “a big, big win.” He added: “We are the moral winners by a mile tonight. We will remember this for a long time.”
