The Houston Dynamo will team up with the Charleston Battery as its USL PRO affiliate in 2015. In 2014, the Dynamo partnered with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, while the Battery worked with the Vancouver
Whitecaps, who have since formed their own USL PRO club to be based out of the University of British Columbia.
The partnership will enable the Dynamo to loan approximately four
MLS-contracted players to Charleston for the 2015 USL PRO season. In 2014, the Dynamo loaned five players at various times to the Riverhounds. The Battery used nine 'Caps players during the 2014 USL
"They are one of the most respected clubs in USL with a proven track record of success and professionalism,” Dynamo vice president/general manager Matt Jordan
said of the Battery. “We feel this affiliation will provide our players the opportunity to grow in a quality environment with a staff that is very
dedicated. This partnership will be a positive step forward for both clubs.”
The Dynamo has been talking with officials in McAllen, Texas -- a border town 350 miles from Houston --
about starting a Dynamo second team there.
Houston is the second MLS club to change USL PRO partners. Columbus will team up with the Austin Aztex after working with the Dayton Dutch Lions
in 2014. Dayton is dropping down to the PDL in 2015.
