Aguirre to Hold Press Conference About Game-Fixing Allegations

The Japanese soccer association (JFA) on Monday confirmed that head coach Javier Aguirre, who was recently charged with game-fixing during his time in charge of La Liga club Real Zaragoza, would hold a press conference before Dec. 29 to discuss the charges that have been brought against him by the Spanish authorities. The former Mexico coach has not yet spoken publicly about the allegations that have been leveled at him.

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera, Atletico Madrid captain Gabi, Aguirre and several other current and former Zaragoza and Levante players and staff have been named in the case regarding the last game of the season between the clubs in the 2010-11 season, which finished 2-1 to Zaragoza. The result was good enough to keep Aguirre’s club in Spain’s first division.
