Blanc Blasts Mentally Weak PSG

Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc blasted his players’ lack of mental strength following his team’s 4-2 loss at Bastia on Saturday. Though PSG jumped to a 2-0 lead inside 20 minutes, the host pulled back four unanswered goals to hand the defending Ligue 1 champ its second loss of the season.

After the game, Blanc criticized his players’ fortitude. He said: "At the slightest difficulty, we give up ... There is a mental problem. When it comes to the mental aspect, it can affect everyone. It's very hard for a coach." The French tactician said he felt "anger" after the defeat and considers his players "lucky" to have a chance to make amends so soon after, as long as they beat Saint-Etienne in the French Coupe de la Ligue on Tuesday.

For the second-straight game, Blanc did not include South American duo Edinson Cavani or Ezequiel Lavezzi in his squad after the pair returned to Paris late from winter break.

With PSG and Marseille both losing, Lyon assumed top spot in France this weekend. PSG also fell out of the UEFA Champions League qualifying slots to fourth, while Marseille fell to second and St. Etienne rose to third.
