Much has been made of recent incidents involving Real Madrid forwards Gareth Bale and newly crowned Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, with the latter visibly shouting expletives after the Welsh winger opted to shoot on goal rather than pass to the Portuguese in separate incidents during Real’s last two La Liga games against Valencia and Espanyol, respectively.
Following his third Ballon d’Or win on Monday night, Ronaldo was asked point-blank if there was a rift between himself and Bale, the world’s most expensive player: “Madrid fans are always the same, they are very intense, they show what they feel, they don’t lie, but I think things with ‘Gaz’ are normal, because they know he’s a very important player for us, a key player,” he said, adding that the incident is now in the past: “Sometimes I make mistakes too, it’s part of the business and part of football. I think people will be nice with him and they should be nice.”
Meanwhile, Bale, who congratulated Ronaldo on his third Ballon d’Or win on his official Twitter account, continues to be linked with a move back to the Premier League, with Manchester United said to be the frontrunner to capture his signature.
