As expected, Canadian international Cyle Larin (Connecticut) was taken by with the No. 1 pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft.

In a surprise, New York City FC, MLS's other expansion team, took Oregon State forward Khiry Shelton with the No. 2 pick. They were followed by several huge surprises early in the first round. French defender Clement Simonin out of N.C. State, taken by Toronto FC at No. 9, was so lightly regarded he didn't even have a bio in the MLS SuperDraft media guide.

In the first trade, Colorado picked up the No. 14 pick, acquiring 6-foot-7 Swedish defender Axel Sjoberg and 2016 SuperDraft pick for 19th pick and future considerations.

Two picks later, Seattle traded the 27th pick and other considerations to Real Salt Lake for Washington midfielder Cristian Roldan, who was widely tipped to go with the No. 2 pick but fell to No. 16.
