Mourinho Questions Man City's Transfer Policy

Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho suggested that rival Manchester City is not adhering to UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules after the Premier League champ signed Ivory Coast striker Wilfried Bony from Swansea City earlier this week. Bony joined City for a reported 35 million euros ($40.5 million) despite restrictions imposed on the club’s net transfer spend and salary total as part of Financial Fair Play sanctions imposed on the club by UEFA last summer.

"Good striker," Mourinho replied when asked about Bony. "If [City] have the money & no problems with FFP, well done. They can only play with 11 unless the rules are different for them. It looks like they are in certain aspects." Asked to clarify his comments, the Portuguese added: "You know what I mean."

City's transfer policy has come under scrutiny in recent weeks amid confusion over the nature of Frank Lampard's contract with the club. After initially announcing that the 36-year-old had joined City on loan from New York City FC, the Premier League giant was forced to disclose that he had actually signed a permanent one-year deal with City.
