U.S. U-18 boys heading to Copa Chivas

The U.S. U-18 men’s national team, which ended 2014 splitting a two-game series with Germany, will get its first action of 2015 at the Copa Chivas that kicks off Friday in Guadalajara. Coach Javier Perez has named a 20-player roster, which includes the return of goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann and 13 other players who took part against Germany.

In group play, the USA will face Brazil’s Cruzeiro, Mexico's Tijuana and Chile’s Universidad Catolica. The top eight seeds advance to the tournament’s knockout stage.

The other two groups comprise of Mexico’s U-17 national team, Boca Juniors, Monterrey, River Plate and Tigres, FC Dallas, Atlas, Atlético Paranaense, Chivas Guadalajara and Urawa Red Diamonds.

The goalscorers from the USA’s 2-1 win and 3-2 loss to Germany are in the squad: Mauricio Pineda (2 goals), Brooks Lennon and Sebastian Elney.
