Major League Soccer has sold KICKTV, its dedicated global soccer platform approaching one million subscribers on YouTube, to London-based Copa90. KICKTV was launched in March 2012 as one of the first
premium channels on YouTube, one of the online video site's key global initiative, and served as an important promotional tool for MLS to reach millennials.
MLS will retain an ownership
stake in the newly created company and will work strategically with Copa90. The operations of KICKTV will continue to be operated out of New York. KICKTV’s global coverage includes weekly shows
The Mixer, Rumor Mill, Top 5 and select MLS highlights.
“We have built a successful global soccer platform and we’re very proud of that,” said Gary Stevenson
, MLS Business Ventures' president and managing director. “This is the next step in KICKTV’s evolution. We are delighted to maintain an interest in the company
and we will support its growth moving forward. We’re excited about KICKTV and Copa90.”
Copa90 is similar to KICKTV but with a more global focus for its YouTube channel and
works with soccer brands to reach fans.
