The Portland Timbers will be without midfielder
Michael Nanchoff for their match at Sporting Kansas City on Saturday as he will be out for about a month
recovering from sports hernia surgery. He is the fourth Portland player to require surgery in the last five months.
Nanchoff, 26, was in Santa Monica, California, on Monday for the
procedure performed by
Dr. William Hutchinson at the Surgery Center of the Pacific. Recovery time for the procedure is 4-6 weeks.
Already sidelined
are
Diego Valeri,
Will Johnson and
Ben Zemanski.
Nanchoff, a native
of North Royalton, Ohio, played at Akron University for Timbers head coach
Caleb Porter and after signing a Generation adidas contract was selected by Vancouver
in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft.
He played 14 MLS games for the Whitecaps, who traded him to Portland prior to the 2013 season. He's played five league matches for the Timbers and has 11
appearances in all competitions.
Both his father,
George Nanchoff, and his uncle,
Louis Nanchoff, played
for Akron and the U.S. national team.
