USL Week 3: Results & Standings

Cuban Heviel Cordoves and Jamaican Dane Kelly scored to give the Charleston Battery a 2-0 win over the Harrisburg City Islanders for its third straight victory of the season and its best start in 12 years.

The New York Red Bulls II moved into a tie for second place in the Eastern Conference with a 4-1 win over Toronto FC 2 on goals by Cameroonians Anatole Abang and Marius Obekop, Shawn McLaws and first-round draft pick Leo Stolz.

THURSDAY. Portland Timbers 2 and Arizona United both improved to 2-0-0 with late comeback wins over defending champion Sacramento Republic FC and the LA Galaxy II, while Saint Louis FC picked up the first win in club history, defeating the Tulsa Roughnecks, 2-0, on the road.

Steven Evans scored the late game-winner from distance at T2 knocked off Sac, 2-1, at Merlo Field. Rookie Kharlton Belmar scored his third goal in two matches to even the score after Cameron Iwasa put Republic FC ahead in the 61st minute.

Saint Louis FC got a goal on either side the break from Jermie Lynch and former LA Galaxy defender Bryan Gaul, and Mark Pais made five saves in goal to preserve the shutout.

Long Tan scored in second-half stoppage time to lead Arizona United to a 2-1 victory over the host Los Dos. U.S. U-20 Bradford Jamieson IV put the home team ahead in the 18th minute, but Arizona United drew even in the 52nd minute on Dennis Chin's tap-in.

WEDNESDAY. Whitecaps FC 2 won their first game in team history with a 3-0 road victory over the Austin Aztex thanks to goals by Canadian striker Caleb Clarke, centerback Craig Nitti and newcomer Billy Schuler. Former University of Washington goalkeeper Spencer Richey earned the shutout in his first pro start.
