How's this for a schedule? Columbus has had byes two of the last three weeks -- and played the week most clubs around the world were off for national team action. Now, it is off for an unprecedented
MLS road trip. It plays a game at Vancouver on Wednesday and turns around and plays at New England on Saturday. About the only solace for Crew players is they'll rack up those frequent-flier miles:
6,500 for the round trip.
“The schedule has been ridiculous so far,” captain
Michael Parkhurst told the Columbus Dispatch. “We’ve got two bye weekends on either side of an international break, but we
play on the international break. There are no favors over there for sure. I don’t know what’s going on with that.”
The trip marks the first time in MLS history a team
that has had to play road games three days apart first in Vancouver and then on the East Coast.
