Season-ticket purchases continue to add up for New York City FC. The MLS expansion team announced Tuesday it has reached 16,000 founding members, which receive a season ticket as part of their membership. NYCFC attracted a sellout crowd of 27,545 fans March 28 for its match against Sporting Kansas City at Yankee Stadium, and has drawn 70,961 fans for its two league games this season.
Said sporting director Claudio Reyna, “It is incredible how fast our fan base is growing. The atmosphere in the stadium has been fantastic over the first two home games, and growing our Founding Membership like this will only help build on that.”
Fellow expansion team Orlando City SC reached its cap of 14,000 season tickets in March. Average attendance for the first five weeks of the 2015 season is 22,191. All teams have played at least one home game except Toronto FC, which is in the midst of a seven-game stretch of road games while renovations that will increase capacity at BMO Field to 30,000 are completed.
