MLS: No place like home no more

Another MLS week began with another team losing at home. The Houston Dynamo's 1-0 loss to San Jose on Tuesday left just 10 MLS teams with winning records at home. Home teams have won just 52 percent of available points, the lowest percentage in the last five years.

The troubles teams have had on home turf is consistent with the lowest scoring. Through almost a quarter of the season, MLS is averaging just 2.26 goals a game, which is putting it on track to set a record for fewest goals per game in league history.

Just 10 MLS teams have winning records at home, and four teams are still without a home win. With three losses and a tie at home, Orlando City has dropped 11 of 12 points at the Citrus Bowl. New York City FC and Philadelphia both have also dropped 11 points in five games.

The other teams without home wins are Colorado (0-2-2) and Montreal (0-1-0) and Toronto FC, which opens at BMO Field this weekend.

With 10 points in 10 games, the Dynamo is bunched with two other teams just below the red zone in MLS's Western Conference. But what will be very worrying is that the Dynamo has played seven of the 10 games at at BBVA Compass Stadium and dropped a league-high 13 points at home.

It's impossible to "drop just one point at home". You can drop 2 with a draw, or 3 with a loss. What else is wrong with this chart?
