Americans help Bayern win Frauen-Bundesliga title

Katie Stengel and Gina Lewandowski helped Bayern Munich win its first German women's title since 1976 as it capped off an undefeated season with a 2-0 win over SGS Essen and overtook defending champion Wolfsburg on the final day of the Frauen-Bundesliga season.

Wolfsburg played FFC Frankfurt to a 1-1 draw on Sunday to finish second a point behind Bayern.

Stengel, a rookie out of Wake Forest, led Bayern Munich with nine goals, also the most by an American in the Bundesliga. Lewandowski  previously won three German titles with Frankfurt. Bayern's squad also included Dagny Brynjarsdottir, who led Florida State to the 2014 NCAA title.

Bayern Munich also qualifies for the UEFA Women's Champions League for the first time since 2009-10.
