USL Weekend: Rhinos are now lone unbeaten team

The Rochester Rhinos had to settle for a 1-1 tie when Ashani Fairclough scored in stoppage time for the Wilmington Hammerheads, but the result kept the Eastern Conference leaders unbeaten and opened up a three-point lead on the Charleston Battery, which had lost its first game of the season on Thursday.

The dramatic equalizer by Fairclough came just minutes after Steevan do Santos’ goal put the Rhinos ahead.

FC Montreal won its first USL game with a 1-0 victory over the Battery on a first-half goal by Louis Béland-Goyette off a pass from the Impact's top draft pick, Jamaican Romario Williams.

In the Western Conference,  Sacramento Republic FC finished the weekend on top after a 1-0 win at the LA Galaxy II on Rodrigo Lopez's second-half goal.

Seattle Sounders FC 2 had taken the lead Friday as it scored three second-half goals to overcome the visiting OKC FC, 3-1. Forward Andy Craven scored twice, including the game-tying first goal in the 55th minute. Saint Vincent & the Grenadines teenager Oalex Anderson, who came on as a substitute in the second half, scored the game-winner with his first goal of the season.

The Tulsa Roughnecks earned a split on their road trip to California with a 1-0 win over Orange County as former Blues forward Gibson Bardsley's goal off a corner by Chad Bond in the 59th minute proved the difference Saturday night at Anteater Stadium. OC began the week tied the Sacramento.
