NASL Weekend: Cosmos break open spring race

The New York Cosmos opened up a six-point lead in the NASL's spring standings with a 3-0 victory over the defending champion San Antonio Scorpions. They can clinch the title Saturday if they win at Minnesota United FC and Tampa Bay doesn't beat Indy Eleven.

NASL, Week 8 Results:
SATURDAY, MAY 23
Ottawa 1 Indy Eleven 0
Minn. United 3 Jacksonville 2
New York 3 San Antonio 0
Ft. Lauderdale 0 Carolina 1
SUNDAY, MAY 24
FC Edmonton 4 Atlanta 2

Raul gave the Cosmos the lead in the first half from the penalty spot and Roversio and Leo Fernandes scored after the break as the Cosmos stayed unbeaten in 2015.

After going winless in its first four games, Minnesota United FC won its third straight match on Saturday night, knocking off Jacksonville Armada FC, 3-2, at a sold-out NSC Stadium. Goals from Pablo Campos, Tiago Calvano and Miguel Ibarra gave the Loons the win that moved it into second place behind the Cosmos.

The Armada is the only team besides the Cosmos, idle Rowdies and Minnesota United with a chance to win the spring title.
