USL Weekend: Floods leave Austin stadium under water

Bad weather that hit the Southwest caused havoc around the USL, forcing a delay in Oklahoma City and St. Louis, as well as an eventual postponement in Austin, then hit on Monday by the area's worst storm in almost a quarter century.

Seattle Sounders 2 reclaimed the lead in the Western Conference thanks to a 2-0 win over Portland Timbers 2 and Sacramento's 2-1 loss at OKC Energy FC.

S2 got goals from Damion Lowe and Andy Craven to beat T2 at the University of Portland's Merlo Field. They will meet again Wednesday in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, this time at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila, Washington.

Sacramento was forced to play with 10 men after a red card to Rodrigo Lopez after just 11 minutes, and the Energy won on goals by Danes Sebastian Dalgaard and Danni Konig, both set up by Casey Townsend.

The game between the Aztex and Tulsa, postponed because of electrical storms, was pushed back to Sunday morning when the Roughnecks won, 1-0, on Steven Miller’s goal in the 25th minute. On Monday, heavy rains flooded Austin's House Park, filling it with seven feet water. The Aztex will have plenty of time to assess the situation. Their next home game is not until June 20.

"Earlier Tuesday morning, the Austin Aztex visited House Park Stadium to help assess the damage resulting in flooding from Shoal Creek on Monday, May 25. Fortunately, no Austin Aztex or Austin Independent School District employees were injured during the flooding.

"However, the stadium is in bad shape.

"If the Aztex were to play a home game this week, the stadium and field would not be suitable to play. The Aztex are awaiting official word from AISD on the status of the field for the remainder of the 2015 season. Until then, the Aztex front office and ownership are looking at all possible venue options to resume their schedule, starting with their next home game on June 20th and possibly the remainder of the season."

Saint Louis FC took the lead three times on goals by Jermie Lynch, Mike Ambersley and Bryan Gaul against Louisville City FC at the Soccer Park but had to settle for a 3-3 tie. Matt Fondy scored twice and Nate Polak had the third goal for Lou City, which moved into a tie for third place in the Eastern Conference with Richmond, which fell to Pittsburgh, 2-1.
