NWSL Weekend: Thorns keeper Betos scores equalizer

Michelle Betos became the first goalkeeper to score a goal in NWSL history when she struck the tying goal in the final seconds of the Portland Thorns' 1-1 tie with FC Kansas City in front of 15,214 fans on Friday evening at Providence Park.

Betos connected on a diving header off Allie Long's corner kick. The ball crossed the line before FC Kansas City was able to clear it away. Just moments before the final sequence, Betos made a critical save, stopping Caroline Kastor, who got in behind the Thorns FC backline and was one-on-one on Betos, who made a diving kick save.

The Timbers played the last 20 minutes with 10 players after a red card to McCall Zerboni.

Great job by the Thorns and Betos to get the point at home. Fans were great, even without half a dozen players (WWC duty) on the field. Zerboni was great!
