Russia Cuts World Cup Spending

The Russian government ordered $560 million in cuts to spending on the 2018 World Cup on Monday thanks to economic problems worsened by the collapse of global oil prices, as well as the economic sanctions imposed on Moscow over its role in the crisis in Ukraine. Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko said most of the cuts would be in the number of hotels built, and that stadium spending would not be touched. Russia is still planning to spend close to $11.8 billion on hosting the 2018 finals.
