CCL: Plata and Rimando star in Real Salt Lake win

Real Salt Lake ended its six-game losing streak on the road when Joao Plata's goal in the second minute held up for a 1-0 win over Municipal in Guatemala City's Mateo Flores Stadium to open its Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League campaign. Goalkeeper Nick Rimando preserved the win with two big saves.

Plata scored when he drove a cleared ball off Javier Morales' free kick inside the far post past Municipal keeper Paulo Cesar Motta. The goal marked the fourth straight game Plata scored for RSL.

RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando preserved the win two big saves. The best was a leaping save of a Carlos Ruiz free kick he tipped on to the crossbar in the first half. In the 78th minute, Rimando denied a wide-open Ruiz again, smothering El Pescadido's shot.

Plata had the best chance for RSL in the second half but his shot curling shot headed to the far post with Motto beaten was saved by Guatemalan international Dennis Lopez.

Rimando has now shut out four straight CCL opponents and extended his scoreless streak to 436 minutes, dating back to a game in July 2012 at Herediano.
