Video Pick: Zelalem scores winner for Arsenal's U-21s

Gedion Zelalem, the 18-year-old U.S. playmaker, scored the gamewinner in Arsenal's opening game of the Barclays U21 Premier League D2 season. Zelalem scored in the 86th minute, after some neat combination play, for a 1-0 win over a Fulham team that fielded Emerson Hyndman, Zelalem's midfield partner at the U-20 World Cup last June, and U.S. U-17 Luca de la Torre.

“It was a good game,” Zelalem told Arsenal.com. “We had a lot of possession which we expected and they sat back in the first half. We couldn’t get a through ball in the first half but in the second half we kept moving the ball, they got tired and eventually we got the goal.

“My goal came because I watch the first team a lot and they like to play quick one-twos on the edge of the box. Us youth-team players aspire to be like them so we try to play like them. It worked against Fulham and hopefully the fans enjoyed the goal."

He's fortunate to have gone overseas in order to get top coaching...on and off the ball movement is marvelous as well as the finish.
