Wednesday Night: Dramatic late show in Seattle

For a team in a funk for much of the last two months, the Seattle Sounders needed this, even if it was only in a Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League game.

Down 1-0 at home to Olimpia of Honduras in the 90th minute, the Sounders rallied for two goals, the second on a penalty kick in the seventh minute of stoppage time that almost touched off a brawl, for a 2-1 win.

CCL Week 2, Results:
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 19
Arabe Unido (PAN) 0 D.C. United 1
Seattle Sounders 2 Olimpia (HON) 1
Club America (MEX) 1 Walter Ferretti (NCA) 0

Fielding only one starter -- Lamar Neagle -- from their 4-0 win over Orlando City that ended a five-game MLS losing streak three days earlier, the Sounders fell behind on a goal by Alberth Elis in the fifth minute.

Olimpia, which has played in every edition of the Concacaf Champions League since its debut in 2009 and reached the quarterfinals last season, came into the game with an unbeaten and untied record in the Honduran Apertura season. Los Albos escaped danger in the 30th minute when Aaron Kovar's shot hit the post and held on until the 90th minute when Olimpia defender Johnny Palacios flicked a long Sounders throw-in by Kovar to Erik Friberg, open at the far post for the equalizer.

Deep into stoppage time, the Sounders were awarded a penalty kick for a foul on Dylan Remick and three minutes later Evans slotted home the winner. As Evans turned away from the goal, he pointed at Olimpia's longtime keeper, Noel Valladares, who took exception to the Seattle captain's trash talking and kicked the ball at him, prompting a shoving match.
