Villarreal, who was in the Galaxy first-team's starting lineup at the beginning of the season, was playing on loan from the Galaxy. McBean scored in his debut for the Galaxy at the age of 16. He played 15 MLS games in 2013 but has not played for the first team since then.

Los Dos, now 13-8-4, also started Ignacio Maganto, Kenney Walker and Oscar Sorto, who have played 23 games for the Galaxy. They also started 20-year-old Bryan Olivera, who was recently acquired on loan from Brazilian side Fluminense. He was born in Florida to former Uruguayan international Washington Olivera, who played for the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

OKC Energy FC is second with a game in hand on Los Dos. S2 and Colorado Springs are tied for third place three points back. Energy FC was idle this past week, while the Switchbacks had fallen at Seattle, 3-2, on Wednesday.

Rochester (14-1-8) and Louisville City (13-4-6) are 1-2 in the Eastern Conference.
