Rapinoe leads Reign FC to second NWSL Shield

Seattle Reign FC clinched its second straight NWSL regular-season championship when it defeated the last-place Boston Breakers, 3-1, Wednesday night at Memorial Stadium. Megan Rapinoe scored the first goal and set up Scottish star Kim Little for the third.

After goals by Rapinoe, Kendal Fletcher and Little (her 10th of the season) made it 3-0 after 56 minutes, Maddy Evans scored a late goal for Boston, which is 4-12-3 with one game to play.

"It feels great to get the Shield. As a group, we are overall disappointed we let a goal in but I thought we dominated the game," said Reign head coach and general manager Laura Harvey. "I think its a fantastic achievement for the group."

The Reign (12-3-3, 39 points) now leads the NWSL standings by 10 points over second-place Chicago. It had already clinched a home semifinal match that will take place on Sept. 13.
