Lou City's Fondy breaks USL season scoring record

Matt Fondy entered Louisville City's match against Harrisburg on Wednesday night with 18 goals, two behind OKC Energy FC's Danni Koenig, who matched the USL record of 20 goals set by Kevin Molino in 2014 for Orlando City. But the former MLS striker needed only 40 minutes to score a hat trick and break the record with 21 goals.

The 26-year-old Fondy, who played for Chivas USA and the Chicago Fire, scored in the 20th, 23rd and 40th minutes as Louisville beat the Harrisburg City Islanders, 3-0, at Louisville Slugger Field. The goals gave him seven in two games against Harrisburg. He's the only player in the USL with multiple hat tricks.

Koenig had a chance to break the record but was held scoreless as Energy FC fell to Real Monarchs SLC, 2-0, the RSL second team's third win in a row.

The Pittsburgh Riverhounds' Rob Vincent with 18 goals is also in the scoring race.
