NASL Roundup: Freddy Adu ready to play again

Freddy Adu's hopes of finding his stride at the 12th club of his professional career haven't come to fruition yet. He suffered an Achilles' tendon injury after debuting for the Tampa Bay Rowdies in a 3-1 loss to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers July 25 with a 14-minute appearance that included an assist -- and the coach who brought him was fired. But Adu is available to play on Saturday when the Rowdies host the New York Cosmos.

Thomas Rongen, Adu's coach with the USA's 2007 U-20 World Cup team, was let go five weeks after their reunion. Now the 26-year-old's attempt to resurrect his career is in in the hands of former assistant coach Stuart Campbell.

Under Campbell, the Rowdies fell 3-1 to Minnesota United and pulled off a 2-2 comeback tie last weekend at Ottawa. The Rowdies, who were in fourth place of the combined standings when Rongen departed, are now in fifth place.

NASL Player of the Week
The Fort Lauderdale Strikers’ Stefano Pinho earned the honor for the second straight week after scoring a hat trick in a 7-1 win Indy Eleven. He’s scored in three straight games to up his season total to 12.

NASL Play of the Week
Pinho scored with a wonderful side-winding, flying volley.

I think it's going to be unlikely for a coach to want to bring Freddie in to a team...his coaches always get fired shortly after they add him to their team. It's as if he carries a jinx around with him. I really, really hope things work out well for him this time.
