USL: Rhinos clinch regular-season title

The Rochester Rhinos, who have lost only one game all season, clinched the 2015 USL regular-season title when they tied Richmond, 0-0, on the road. Rhinos goalkeeper Brandon Miller set a USL record with his 12th shutout of the season.

The Rochester tie and the New York Red Bulls II’s 3-2 win over Louisville handed the Rhinos their first silverware since the 2010 USSF Division 2 Pro League regular-season title.

Both Rochester and Richmond had late chances to grab the victory late. Rochester’s Alex Dixon had a finish cleared off the line by Richmond’s Luke Mishu, and Miller made a big save to deny George Davis IV.

The Orange County Blues earned their first victory over the LA Galaxy II in club history and booked a return to the USL playoffs as Christofer Ramirez scored a 90th-minute winner to earn a 2-1 victory in front of a sellout crowd at Anteater Stadium. Los Dos took the lead early as Ariel Lassiter converted a penalty kick for his 10th goal of the season, but the Blues got back on level terms before the break as Brenton Griffiths found the net.

Just three points separate the top seven teams in the Western Conference, but five teams have already clinched playoff berths as sixth-place Tulsa has already finished its season.

The Roughnecks claimed the final edition of the Black Gold Derby and in turn kept their playoff hopes alive as goals by Brady Ballew and Kidd Nwabueze gave them a 2-1 victory over OKC Energy FC in front of 6,005 fans at ONEOK Field.

In the Eastern Conference, just Rochester and Lou City FC are through to the playoffs. The Charlotte Independence moved into sixth place ahead of Pittsburgh as it extended its undefeated streak to 11 games with a 1-0 win and 2-2 tie against Wilmington.
