Van der Veen brings Dutch soccer culture to Utah

Dutch youth international Paola van der Veen, the first player Utah ever recruited from outside North America, has made an immediate impact on the 3-2-2 Utes. It took all of 28 minutes in the home opener against Houston to set up teammate Taylor Slattery for a goal after her shot ricocheted off the crossbar. She comes to Utah from ADO den Haag, one of the top Dutch women's clubs. “She’s played at the highest level on a club in Europe for three years so she’s played with the best players and against people that played in the World Cup,” Utah . “She’s played in huge games and grown up in a culture where soccer is the show," coach Bill Manning said, "so her knowledge of the game is just deep.”
