It was a rough outing indeed for the U.S. defense and goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann in the U-19 division of the Mercedes-Benz Elite Cup in Stuttgart, suffering an 8-1 loss to Germany
last Tuesday.
The US looked good in the first half attacking, but why are we primarily concerned with our offense? Just like the MNT, our back line is the weakest link: ball watching, naivete--get our boys to a camp in Italy and get some help from Italian coaches who know how to teach it.
We build the worst defenders in the top 30 countries in the world easy. Youth/NCAA/MLS defender development is a horror show. If you look at the 3 good exceptions as defenders of the MNT in the last 10-12 years the pool is bad. If you look at the last 25 years our defenders as bad. This goes back to how we pick youth teams and development. We want strikers we dont have a system of play, coaches cant teach tactics or even understand them and our defender culture is non-existent but besides that we are all set:)

Yeah, Italy is where I would turn for help on the soccer front. They have done so much lately. Oh, were you being serious? My bad.
