DeAndre Yedlin gets his second EPL start

Of the 13 foreign-based players who were on the U.S. roster for its games against Mexico and/or Costa Rica, nine saw action last weekend with their clubs, including both goalkeepers, Brad Guzan and Tim Howard, who each suffered English Premier League losses. DeAndre Yedlin made his second EPL appearance for last-place Sunderland in a 1-0 loss at West Brom.

Fabian Johnson, sent home after the Mexico game by Jurgen Klinsmann for asking to be subbed in overtime, played the full 90 minutes in a 5-1 Borussia Moenchengladbach win.

Guzan took heat for an "embarrassing gaffe" on Chelsea's first goal, finished by Diego Costa after Willian exploited a poor pass from the American. Chelsea's second was an own goal.

The 22-year-old Yedlin, who saw only 11 minutes of EPL action after arriving at Tottenham last January, joined Sunderland on loan Sept. 1 and has played in one League Cup game in addition to his two league starts. The Sunderland Echo gave Yedlin a 7 out of 10 rating and wrote: "Neutered [James] McClean effectively and got forward well during the first half, despite suffering from jet-lag."

Klinsmann will just misuse this talent in upcoming games.
