No. 4 Wake Forest came back from a goal down to beat No. 3 Notre Dame, 2-1, and improve its record in the ACC to 5-0-2. Freshman Jack Harrison
evened the score
in the 51st minute, and Spaniard Jon Bakero
won the game in the 87th minute.
Wake Forest is the last team unbeaten in conference play with one ACC
game to go Friday against Louisville. Notre Dame, which came into the game with a eight-match unbeaten streak, fell to 8-3-5 with the defeat.
The Irish led on Max Lachowecki
's goal in the 14th minute, the first goal the Demon Deacons conceded in 543 minutes.
The Demon Deacons tied the contest when Steven Echevarria
fed an open Harrison at the right post, where he scored his fifth goal of the year.
Bakero slipped behind the Notre Dame backline to take a pass from
Ricky Greensfelder and bury his fifth goal of the year.
Elsewhere in the ACC, Clemson topped Boston College 1-0 to keep pace with Wake Forest in the Atlantic Division standings. Overall,
Wake Forest has 17 points while Clemson is just one point behind with 16. The Tigers are on the road next Friday against N.C. State to close the regular season.
North Carolina topped
Louisville, 2-1, to clinch the ACC's Coastal Division title. With a win at Virginia, the Tar Heels would win the overall ACC title with 21 points in conference play regardless of what the rest of the
league does. That game in Charlottesville is also set for Friday.
