UCLA's rebuilding year hit a low point as the Bruins fell to Pac-12 rival Cal, 7-0, in Berkeley. Arielle Ship
scored her second hat trick of the season and
added an assist to lead the Golden Bear (13-4-2) to the seven-goal victory, matching the biggest conference win, a 7-0 win victory over Oregon State in 1991.
Last year's Bruin senior
class included nine starters, six of whom went with the first 19 picks in the 2015 NWSL college draft. Thursday's loss dropped UCLA's record to 8-8-1.
California opened the scoring
Ship’s goal in the 41st minute. The Bears followed with six goals in less than 30 minutes in the second half.
“We moved the ball well,” Ship said “We were patient
and really stepped on the gas the second half scoring-wise. We just kept pushing and kept going for more.”
The seven goals allowed were the most by a Bruin team since giving up
seven goals to North Carolina in 2009, and the seven-goal loss was UCLA’s biggest since a 7-0 defeat at Santa Clara in the 1999 NCAA Tournament. Oct.
