Nassau Community College --
Bruce Arena's alma mater -- ended a 17-year drought, winning the 2015 NJCAA Division III Men’s championship with a 4-0 result
over Bunker Hill Community College. Four different Lions scored as the New York school won its third national championship after titles in 1997 and 1998.
No. 3-seeded Nassau opened the
scoring a goal from
Reece Dalton in the 36th minute but then pulled away in the second half on goals by
Benjamin Alonge,
Marvin Eveillard and
Franky Villegas.
Nassau finished 21-2-1, losing only to Mercer County in its season
opener and to Monroe in October. The Bulldogs, who were 6-6-0 at the end of September, finished 16-8-0.
It is a huge shame that California Community Colleges do not participate in the NJCAA tournament.
