Saborio re-signs with D.C. United

Veteran Costa Rican forward Alvaro Saborio, who arrived from Real Salt Lake in mid-season, has agreed to a contract extension with D.C. United. Saborio, 33,  has scored 67 goals over six seasons in MLS but his contract was to expire at the end of the 2015 season, which made him expendable at RSL.

Saborio had four goals in 15 appearances (11 starts) in the regular season and playoffs for D.C. United.

"We are pleased to have reached an agreement to retain Sabo for the 2016 season,” D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper said. "He made an immediate impact when he joined us this summer and scored important goals down the stretch. We look forward to his continued contributions."
Saborio, who is eighth all-time in scoring among active MLS players, played in both of Costa Rica's World Cup qualifiers, starting in the 1-0 win over Haiti and playing the last minute of Tuesday's 2-1 win at Panama.

Saborio has 35 career goals in 104 appearances for Costa Rica since his debut in 2002. He played in the 2006 World Cup but a broken foot suffered in training kept him out of the 2014 World Cup.
