Iowa Central takes first NJCAA DI women's championship

Iowa Central defeated previously beaten and untied Eastern Florida State, 1-0, in rain-drenched for the NJCAA Division I women’s championship. The win earned the Tritons their first national title in program history.

Iowa Central broke through with less than three minutes remaining in regulation on a goal by freshman midfielder Tamara Queiroz after Leicy Santos intercepted an Eastern Florida State pass at midfield.

Queiroz was named the offensive MVP of the tournament; Iowa Central sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Medeiros was honored as the defensive MVP.

The Tritons’ victory in the title match improved their overall record to 18-1-0 for the year. Suffering its first loss of the season, Eastern Florida State fell to 17-1-0.
