U.S. Open Cup: Big wins for LA Wolves FC and La Maquina

LA Wolves FC knocked off Cal FC, 2-1, while La Maquina beat Chula Vista FC, 4-0, as two of the top Southern California amateur teams with a history of success in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup were eliminated in the second qualifying round of the 2016 tournament.

Two goals by Samuel Higgins in the first half were the difference for Wolves. La Maquina for two goals from Edwin Borboa and one each from Rodolofo Godinez Jr. and Jose Castro Perez in its road win.

Twelve of the 14 second-round winners in closest proximity to each other will compete in the third qualifying round set for April 2-3.

The remaining two winners will be awarded the first two slots into the 2016 U.S. Open Cup from the Open Division and will be joined by the six victors from the third qualifying round.
