U.S. women's national team star
Sydney Leroux finally got a her wish. A three-team deal sent the 25-year-old forward to two-time NWSL champion FC Kansas City, allowing her to reunited with her
husband, Sporting Kansas City star
Dom Dwyer, and join her fourth club in four seasons. She had been vocal about her displeasure last year when a deal sent her from Seattle to Western New
York.
The maneuvering began when FC Kansas City picked up
Jessica McDonald and
Tiffany McCarty from Houston for an international roster spot and the No. 8 pick in Friday's
NWSL College Draft. FC Kansas City then dealt McDonald, an international roster spot in 2016 and 2017 and its second-round pick in the 2017 NWSL Draft to the Flash for Leroux.
Leroux
scored one goal in just three games for the Flash in 2015. An ankle injury that required surgery forced her to miss the second half of the 2015 season after her return from the Women's World Cup.
She had five goals in 22 games for Seattle in 2014 and 11 goals -- tied for second in the NWSL -- for Boston in 2013, the first year the NWSL operated.
Leroux joins U.S.
teammates
Heather O'Reilly,
Amy Rodriguez and
Becky Sauerbrunn on FC Kansas City. Rodriguez is pregnant and might sit out the year.
Lauren Holiday retired after the 2015
season.
-- The Flash's two allocated players will be second-year pros
Jaelene Hinkle and
Samantha Mewis, both U.S. Soccer-subsidized players for the first time. The third
new allocation for 2016 is
Lindsey Horan, pending her transfer from Paris St. Germain to Portland.
