Ivorian midfielder Xavier Kouassi
, acquired as a Designated Player to fill in the slot held by unsigned Jermaine Jones
, was injured playing for his Swiss club Sion on Sunday, and the Swiss newspaper Le Nouvelliste reported
he faces 6-9 months on the sidelines
with a knee injury.
The transfer called for the 26-year-old Kouassi to complete his 2015-16 Swiss Super League season and then join the Revs in July during MLS's summer transfer window.
The injury came in the second half of Sunday's 1-0 win over FC Zurich.
"More than the problems this injury poses for the team or me, it's terrible for Xavier," said Sion coach Didier
. "He's a super guy."
Sion was hoping to acquire Belgian international Anthony Vanden Borre
from Anderlecht before the Swiss window closed next Monday.
