Christian Pulisic will have company at German club Borussia Dortmund next season. His cousin, 17-year-old goalkeeper
Will Pulisic, tweeted that he will play next season at Dortmund,
postponing plans to enroll at Duke University.
Will Pulisic hails from Richmond, Virginia, and like Christian, he attended the U.S. under-17 residency program in Bradenton, Florida, and
played for the USA at the 2015 Under-17 World Cup. Will Pulisic is not unfamiliar with Dortmund, having spent a week training there last fall. Christian Pulisic's father,
Mark, moved to
Dortmund with Christian to help him adjust to the club.
Mark Pulisic played college soccer at George Mason and professionally in the indoor ranks. Will's father,
Matt, played
soccer at Division III Randolph Macon College, and his older twin brothers played baseball at William and Mary and football at Old Dominion.
Will Pulisic currently plays for Richmond
United in the U.S. Development Academy and has moved up to the U.S. under-19 national team. If he plays as an amateur in Germany, he will maintain his college eligibility.
He is the six
U-17 to join a European team after
Matthew Olosunde (Manchester United)
, Joshua Perez (Fiorentina),
Danny Barbir (West Bromwich Albion),
Luca de la Torre (Fulham)
and Christian Pulisic. A seventh former U-17,
Haji Wright, is expected to sign with Schalke 04 when he turns 18.
