Toronto FC was the last MLS club to open at home, drawing 30,025 fans for its first game of the season at revamped BMO Field. The 20 MLS openers averaged 23,591 fans, down 1.8 percent from 2015. Eight
teams drew more fans than they did in 2015, 10 drew less, and two -- Portland and San Jose -- drew exactly the same. The league-wide decrease was entirely attributable to the drop in New York City's
opening crowd as compared to its debut game at Yankee Stadium in 2015.
