USA-Ecuador: Kellyn Acosta called in, Chandler OK

U.S. national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann added Kellyn Acosta to the U.S. roster for Wednesday's friendly against Ecuador in Frisco, Texas, where he plays for FC Dallas. Acosta plays in midfield for FC Dallas, which is second in the overall MLS standings, but has been used as an outside back for the national team and U-23s in 2016.

Acosta earned his first two caps for the senior national team against Iceland and Canada and was named to the 40-man preliminary roster for the Copa Centenario.

He was called up because outside back Timmy Chandler will only arrive in Frisco on Tuesday. Chandler's Eintracht Frankfurt won its promotion-relegation series to stay up in the German Bundesliga when it beat Nuremberg, 1-0, on Monday.

Chandler hobbled off in the second half, raising doubts about his availability for the Copa Centenario, but ESPN FC's Doug McIntyre reported that Chandler texted national team assistant coach Andi Herzog to tell him he was OK and would report to camp as scheduled.

The only player on the Copa Centenario roster who will be missing is goalkeeper Ethan Horvath, whose Norwegian club Molde has one more game before it breaks for June. Ironically, Horvath was passed over in favor of Swede Andreas Linde in goal in Molde's 2-0 win over Brann on Saturday.
