U.S. U-17 boys reach final of India tournament

The U.S. U-17 boys national team went undefeated in four games of at the AIFF Youth Cup in India to earn a spot in the final against South Korea on Wednesday.

The final will be a rematch of the USA’s first-round 0-0 tie with South Korea in which Coach John Hackworth’s squad outshot the Koreans 12-9 but failed to capitalize on a man advantage after Ko Junhee was ejected in the 79th minute.

The USA, which opened with a 1-1 tie with Tanzania and a 4-0 win over host India, finished group play with a 2-1 win over Malaysia in which the Americans played short-handed for the last 39 minutes after a red card to Kevin Negrete.

Josh Sargent had given the USA a 2-0 first-half lead over Malaysia with goals in the 19th minute (from the penalty spot) and in first-half stoppage time.
