“I know I get accused of knowing nothing about soccer, and I don’t, I know absolutely zero about soccer. And that’s more than I want to know about soccer. I have no interest. Sorry.
I’m just being honest. It’s a little late for me and soccer. It’s just not going to happen.”
-- WFAN radio talk show host
Mike Francesa, saying he doesn't
care about soccer, then talking about it for eight minutes in response to Sport Illustrated’s “Summer of Soccer” cover with
Lionel Messi. (

Very well, your resignation is accepted. What kind of sports talk host admits ignorance about a major sport? Or is he just too old for this new-fangled century? Either way, time for the retirement home.
You kids get off my lawn!!! And turn off that blasted music.....

Nixon won?!?? really?? I don't know anybody that voted for him!
There use to be many more like him. It's much more soccer friendly today. People can really only be what their experiences make them. Not being a part of the beautiful game is a pleasure in life some never partake in. We move forward. To me what's far worse is the continual disrespect from ESPN. Could they not at least devote a minute of coverage after the Ecuador match. Or, some regular updates on men's and women's national team news. I remember never picking up a Sports Illustrated magazine after some negative, ugly soccer opinions they published in the in the mid 70's. I haven't missed their rag since.
I suppose I appreciate honesty among the neanderthals ... Kornheiser inclued
Our local sports writer is big enough to say that 1) he doesn't get it and doesn't much like it, but 2) he acknowledges its not about him anyway, that he recognizes the importance of this sport to legions of younger fans. A mature opinion to say the least.
