MLS: Chicago acquires playmaker Andy Williams

The Chicago Fire has signed Jamaican midfielder Andy Williams, a five-year MLS veteran with the Columbus Crew, Miami Fusion, New England Revolution and most recently, the MetroStars.

Chicago acquired the 25-year-old ''senior international'' from the MetroStars in exchange for a conditional draft pick in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft.

''I feel that we've got a proven MLS player in Andy,'' says Fire coach Dave Sarachan. ''He's a very talented player and given the right surroundings in Chicago, I feel that he will do very good things for our team. He's a hard-working playmaker and this is one of the areas that we're trying to strengthen due to some of our losses in the offseason.''

Williams has notched 10 goals and 41 assists in 98 MLS games. In 2002, he finished third in MLS in assists with 15.
