U.S. Open Cup: Struggling Fire and Sounders triumph

The Chicago Fire and Seattle Sounders, MLS's most successful clubs in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with four titles apiece, moved into the quarterfinals of the 2016 edition with wins over MLS opposition on Tuesday.

The Fire, last in MLS's overall standings, got two goals from David Accam in the first half hour and held on for a 2-1 win over the Columbus Crew.

The Sounders, losers of five of their last six MLS games, beat Real Salt Lake in a shootout after a 1-1 tie that drew 17,087 fans at Rio Tinto Stadium.
